At MUA we pride ourselves on our bespoke approach to insurance risk management. No two situations are exactly alike. As a result, we believe every individual risk should be uniquely assessed in accordance with each client’s unique risk profile. We understand that every situation is different; that’s what makes us different.
At MUA we are responsible. We err on the side of caution. We like to make sure we are ready for whatever the future holds. And we feel passionately about ensuring you are too.
How do we do this? By embracing enabling technology that enhances our efficiency, by employing actuarial analysis to improve our pricing, by leveraging our strong brand to constantly increase our broker network, and by ensuring the best people in the industry work for us – and actively advance our efforts.
MUA was proudly established in 1988 under the name “Motor Underwriting Agency”. As a motor-only underwriter, we were the first UMA of its kind in the country and we became known as pioneers in the field of specialist underwriting of high-valued, classic and exotic vehicles for the upper segment of the personal lines short-term insurance market. Since then we’ve become South Africa’s leaders in tailoring insurance risk management solutions for the discerning consumer. In 2006 our services were expanded to include a similar bespoke focus on home insurance. Our business model has been redefined over the years; from an independent licensed insurer, to an underwriting manager (“UMA”) for Auto & General Insurance Company Limited. MUA is an authorised Financial Services Provider (FSP No.: 37947) and have branches in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban. Through our shareholder, Lireas Holdings, we are very proud to be associated with Hannover Re, one of the largest reinsurers in the world.
